This paper focuses on integrated rural health networks, defined as a group of more than one type of rural health care provider that may also include social service providers and/or insurers which has a formal and legal organizational arrangement (contract, incorporation as board members / shareholders), uses the resources of more than one member organization, and performs functions according to an explicit plan of action. We conducted structured telephone interviews with rural health policy experts in eight key states and analyzed background materials to come up with recommendations for state policymakers.
